Introduction

Advancing Interoperability in Malaysian Healthcare

The Malaysian HL7® FHIR® Profile (MyCore) is a standardised framework designed to enhance healthcare data interoperability across Malaysia. Built on the HL7® Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR®) Release 4 standard, MyCore provides a set of guidelines, profiles, and extensions tailored to meet the unique needs of Malaysia’s healthcare ecosystem.

Objective: A Clear Roadmap for Malaysia HL7® FHIR® Implementation

This implementation guide has two primary objectives:

  • Offer a comprehensive Implementation Guide for the Malaysia FHIR® standard known as the Malaysia Core (MY Core) to equip developers & implementors with the necessary knowledge and tools to seamlessly integrate the standard into their healthcare software solutions.
  • Delineate the profile development process for the Malaysia FHIR® standard to ensure a well-defined and nationally recognised approach to data exchange.

Why MyCore?

Healthcare interoperability in Malaysia requires a locally adapted FHIR® standard. Key benefits include:

  • Standardised Data Exchange – Ensures seamless sharing of clinical and administrative data across local healthcare providers, support services, payers, and other digital health solutions.
  • Localised for Malaysia – Adapts international FHIR® standards to align with Malaysian regulations, policies, and clinical workflows.
  • Supports National Digital Health Initiatives – Facilitates integration with the Malaysian HIE and other digital health programs already using HL7® FHIR® standards.
  • Developer-Friendly – Provides clear implementation guides, reference examples, and validation tools to accelerate adoption.

MyCore & Malaysia’s National Health Information Exchange (HIE)

MyCore was developed as a key component of Malaysia’s National Health Information Exchange (HIE) initiative, supporting the secure and seamless exchange of healthcare data across the nation. This is in line with the Ministry of Health’s vision of "1 Individual, 1 Record", ensuring every Malaysian has a unified Lifetime Health Record (LHR) accessible across all healthcare providers.
